The Réserve Africaine de Sigean

Located between Narbonne and Perpignan, the animal park is home to several thousand animals across more than 350 hectares! You can visit this well-preserved nature reserve in your own car through the African-style bush and savannah (1 hour), before setting out on foot to observe a variety of mammals, reptiles and birds (2 to 3 hours). That means a whole day to see pink flamingos, giraffes, zebra, rhinoceros... Even the "king of the jungle" himself will play hide and seek with you! A great recreational area for young and old alike! Hungry on your adventure? Picnic areas, a cafeteria and snack bars are available for a quick bite.

Safari

In the footsteps of the Lion King

Like all safaris, this one is by car, only here you get to explore the 7.5 km that make up the first part of the adventure in your own vehicle! The circuit comprises three parks, African bush-style, home to dwarf buffalo, impala, zebra, springboks, ostriches, giraffes... You will then continue to the Tibetan bear and lion parks. Your driving safari will end after the three African savannah parks where you will get to see white rhinoceros, sitatunga, warthogs, Somali donkeys...

Advice

Sometimes the animals will be resting, eating and unintentionally playing hide-and-seek, so by all means come back later in the day if you don't see them immediately!

Walking tour

Among the birds

After parking in the car parks located in the centre of the site, the walk will take you along the lakes and ponds where pink flamingos, pink-backed pelicans and white storks regularly breed…

You will discover the numerous African wildlife areas where you can see antelope, chimpanzees, cheetah, wild dogs... The vivarium and the tropical house reveal the mysterious world of reptiles: varanus lizards, chameleons, boas, dwarf crocodiles...

The highlight of the show is one of Europe's biggest immersion aviaries where you can see African sacred ibis, African spoonbills, Abdim's storks, among others, in large mixed colonies just like in the African wetlands.

A change of scenery guaranteed!

Advice

VIP 1-hour minibus tours are available in English.

It is necessary to book in advance here.

A map of the park in Spanish is provided at the entrance.

7 km on foot

Enough to work up an appetite!

During your visit, you can grab a bite at 5 food points located in the four corners of the park:

  • The park has one cafeteria restaurant with a variety of dishes if you want a proper meal, or four snack bars if a quick bite is all you need (these are open depending on the season).
  • Fancy taking it all in with your own picnic? Picnic areas are available close to the animals.

Interesting feature

There are births in the park all year round!

Wild dogs, cheetah, springboks... these are some of the latest births at the Réserve Africaine! In fact, the park is an ideal breeding ground for species that are threatened or endangered in their natural environment.

What could be better than contributing to the survival of certain endangered species while getting to see cute little baby animals!
