GRAND RETABLE SCULPTÉ DE LA CHAPELLE DE NOTRE DAME DE BETHLEEM

Polychrome stone retable of the 14th century, exceptional for its width, the diversity of the topics, the delicacy of the figures, the richness of the polychromes. The masterpiece is constituted of a total of 26m2 of sculptures, stretched out on three registers. There you can admire amazing representations of Hell, Purgatory, Limbs, scenes of the life of Christ, but also portraits of musician angels, saints and prophets. More than ten centuries, including two of them lost in the lapse of memory, and twenty years of restoration, separate original creation of this masterpiece of medieval art from its re-installation, on April 8, 2000, in the Chapel of Our Lady of Bethlehem.
